Le MICCINE Wine Reviews

Chianti Classico

VINTAGE 2009

Translated from Italian below- One of the best made 2009 Chianti Classico wines comes from the Papini-Cook family winery. The aromas are at first covered, but they then give way to lovely fruit sensations with slight mineral undertones. In the mouth the wine is continuous and tasty, which guarantees a superior drinkability. 2 Red Glasses- Wines that are good to great and that reached the final tastings. Also awarded for its good quality/price ratio

Deep ruby color. Bright aromas of baked cherries, vanilla custard, and delicate spice with a supple, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a tangy, mineral kissed finish. A very clean, precise, and delightful table wine.

VINTAGE 2007

Los Angeles International Wine and Spirits Competition: SILVER

Decanter (Vol. 35 No. 1, October, 2009:  p. 181): Medium ruby, well-integrated oak with hint of tobacco. Very elegant. Smooth, developed, silky, round palate. Silver Medal

Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines 2010: Le Miccine is a small, but delightful property in Gaiole. The 2006 Don Alberto Riserva shows marked wood on the nose while the notes of small red fruits and cherries lend a gentle bouquet and a pleasant taste that is authoritative, zesty, and long. The 2007 Chianti Classico is of the same style, holding fast as a clear example of unequaled winemaking. 2 bicchieri.

Luca Maroni, Best Italian Wines, 2010: Although difficult, the 2007 vintage gave big, beautiful fruit. The same must be said for Le Miccine’s full-bodied Chianti Classico 2007. It is powerful. Quite evolved and balsamic. Compliments.

bronze Le Miccine 2007, Chianti Classico Riserva, Tuscany, Italy

Herbaceous, creamy, nutty flavour with dark red cherries that give richness. Fresh and alert.

VINTAGE 2006

Decanter (Vol. 25 No. 3, December, 2009:  p. 40)  Selected one of the 35 best Chianti Classico wines from the 2006 and 2007 vintages and one of only four five-star Riservas.  Luxurious, sweet cherry fruit aromas with delicate floral notes.  Fresh and beautifully balanced, with super-fine tannins and a lovely earthy finish.  Almost Burgundian.  5 stars.

Gambero Rosso, Guide to Italian Wines, 2010:  Le Miccine is a small, but delightful property in Gaiole .... Its agronomist Remigio Bordini and oenologist Vittorio Fiore guarantee wines made with modern techniques, with a focus on the perfect marriage of oak and fruit. ... The 2006 Don Alberto Riserva shows marked wood on the nose while the notes of small red fruits and cherries lend a gentle bouquet and a pleasant taste that is authoritative, zesty, and long.  2 bicchieri.

Luca Maroni, Best Italian Wines, 2010:  The Chianti Classico Riserva Don Alberto 2006 is not to be missed by anyone who loves powerful, spicy wines.  It joins fruit to the power of oak.

Los Angeles County, Wines of the World Competition:  Silver Medal.

Gold Medal and 93 points (Exceptional) 2009 World Wine Championships (Chicago)
