Azienda Agricola Le Miccine is a small Tuscan wine estate located near the geographic center of Tuscany's Chianti Classico wine region, half-way between Florence and Siena, near the historic towns of Gaiole-in-Chianti and Radda-in-Chianti. It has been part of the Tuscan landscape since the early 1700s, when it served as a way-station for travelers requiring a change of teams on their journeys through the Tuscan hills. Now, 300 years later, Le Miccine is known for its fine wines and olive oil and its elegant and exclusive Tuscan vacation rental accommodations.
Le Miccine's Wine. Americans Clifford
and Donna Meneghetti Weaver have owned and operated Le Miccine in Tuscany, Italy,
since 1996.
For five years before the Weavers purchased Le Miccine, the farm sold only bulk
wine. This was due to an extensive project to reorganize and rebuild Le
Miccine's vinification and aging facilities. The Weavers purchased Le Miccine near
the end of that process, with the goal of capitalizing on its well-sited
vineyards and new production facilities to produce only premium wines.
Their initial efforts have met with considerable success. Gambero Rosso,
the definitive reviewer of Italian wines, praised Le Miccine's
Chianti Classico as "excellent..., with elegance
and finesse .... [A]
beautiful, complex and mouth-filling wine ... strong and fully satisfying."
The Beverage Testing Institute recently honored Le Miccine as one of only 16
"Premier Producers" of Chianti Classico Riserva. Click Wines and Oil for more information.
